What a health insurance broker does, and how brokers get paid
A licensed broker helps you compare plans and apply. Insurance companies pay the broker, so your premium is the same with or without one.

The short version
- Brokers help with applications, financial help requests, and plan selection.
- Ask any broker how they are paid and whether they show more than one insurance company.
- Tax credits are only available through Connect for Health Colorado, and a broker can enroll you there.
- You can ask questions with no obligation to buy.
What a broker does
Connect for Health Colorado says brokers help with applications, financial help requests, and plan selection. A licensed broker can also explain terms, check that your doctors and medicines fit a plan, and answer questions during the year.
Brokers are one source of help. Connect for Health Colorado also lists enrollment centers and assisters. It says free certified help is available in more than 22 languages with no obligation to buy.
How a broker is paid
Insurance companies pay Grove Benefit Advisors a commission when you enroll with us as your broker. You pay nothing extra, and your premium is the same with or without a broker.
Each insurance company sets its own commission rate. Commissions don't change your premium, which plans this site shows, or the order they appear in.
The site shows every plan and price for your answers, and you filter, sort, and compare however you like. We don't recommend a plan unless you ask us for help.
Tax credits and where you enroll
Tax credits come only through Connect for Health Colorado. An off-exchange plan cannot get the credit, so ask which kind a plan is before you enroll.
What a broker cannot do
A broker cannot guarantee a price, a tax credit, or that a doctor will stay in network. A broker is also not a tax advisor: for questions such as repaying a tax credit, talk to a tax professional.
How to choose someone to trust
Look for a licensed broker. Ask how they are paid, and whether they will show you more than one insurance company. Be cautious of anyone who pressures you to act at once, or who asks for payment to enroll you.

Common questions
Do I pay more if I use a broker?
No. Premiums are the same with or without a broker.
Does Grove work with only one insurance company?
No. Our comparison shows plans from every insurance company selling through Connect for Health Colorado in your county.
Can I shop on my own, then ask an advisor to review my pick?
Yes. Many people pick a plan on their own and ask an advisor to double-check it before they enroll.
