Colorado open enrollment for 2027: dates and deadlines
Open enrollment for 2027 coverage runs November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027. Sign up by December 15 to be covered on January 1.
Last updated October 30, 2026
The short version
- If your Cigna plan is ending, you must pick a new plan for 2027.
- Enroll by December 15 for coverage starting January 1. Enroll December 16 to January 15 for coverage starting February 1.
- If you already have a plan, you may be renewed automatically. A renewal does not guarantee the same price, benefits, or doctors.
- After January 15, you generally need a qualifying life event to enroll.
The dates
The date you pick a plan decides when coverage starts. Choose a plan by December 15 and coverage starts January 1, 2027. Choose between December 16 and January 15 and coverage starts February 1, 2027.
- November 1, 2026: open enrollment begins.
- December 15, 2026: last day to enroll for a January 1 start.
- December 16, 2026 to January 15, 2027: enroll for a February 1 start.
- January 15, 2027: open enrollment ends.
Why December 15 matters
If your current plan ends December 31 and you wait until January, you may have a month with no coverage. A gap means any care in that month is billed to you in full.
Even if your plan runs through December, finish by December 15. It leaves time to fix a mistake.
If you already have a plan
If you have a plan through Connect for Health Colorado (the state's marketplace, also called the exchange), it will usually renew you automatically. The price, your financial help, and the doctors in the plan's network can all change.
Read your renewal notice. Check that your doctors and medicines are still covered, and that your income and household details are current. Your financial help is based on them.
The Colorado Division of Insurance announced that individual market premiums will rise an average of 10 percent for 2027. Your own change could be higher or lower. Your renewal notice shows it.
If you use Cigna
Cigna is leaving Colorado's individual medical market. Your Cigna plan stays in place through December 31, 2026, and you need to choose a different plan for 2027. Connect for Health Colorado says affected customers have a special enrollment period through March 1, 2027.
Pick a plan during open enrollment so you have no gap.
If you miss the window
After open enrollment, you generally need a qualifying life event to enroll or change plans, such as losing other coverage, marriage, or a new baby. These special enrollment periods usually last 60 days from the event.
You may need to show proof of the event. Medicaid and CHP+ are different: you can apply for those at any time of year.
Next step
You can price 2027 plans for your household now. Aim to pick one by December 15.

Common questions
What happens if I do nothing?
If you qualify for automatic renewal, you will be renewed. The plan, price, and financial help may change, so read your renewal notice. If your insurance company is leaving, as Cigna is, you must pick a new plan.
Can I change my plan after I enroll?
You can usually change your choice until the enrollment deadline for your start date. After open enrollment ends, you generally need a qualifying life event. Call Connect for Health Colorado at 855-752-6749 to confirm your situation.
Is open enrollment the same for off-exchange plans?
The open enrollment window applies to individual plans in general, whether sold through the exchange or directly. Off-exchange plans cannot receive the tax credit, so check that point before choosing one.
